I Tend to Get to Comfortable

I tend to get to comfortable with anything that I’m currently doing and I hesitate a great deal to try new things and take chances.

What I am gaining from Yweb

I learned that, the more you practice, the better you will be.  Every morning we did standup and at first it was very uncomfortable.  After a while, it got easier and easier.  We got to know each other and I have come to gain valuable friends.

I Learned a Lot About Myself

The things I took away from this class is that I learned a lot about myself, my potential, and the ways to interact along with building up a community. The things that i have learned about myself in Yweb is to engage, and to learn how to code.

What I Have Learned

I am continuous thankful for the opportunity to be a part of such a program and to learn from the students. Just because you may not have been given all the tools you needed to succeed does not mean the desire is not there.

The beginning of my YWebCA internship

Now as a member of the team, I have never felt more welcomed and supported. I have heard stories about bad internship experiences from friends who were shuffled out of the way and who left their positions feeling undervalued.

I tend to…

That little girl pictured with the joyous sun filled smile is my motivation. Making sure she is happy and provided for her is everything. So knowing that every day I wake up and go to YWeb and get stuff done I am working towards building the future she deserves is everything.

My Upcoming SUCCESS

It’s Been Five Weeks

Another key point I want to highlight of my time here is that Steinbok and Rashied have touched upon the concept of degree vs. experience. Rashied said one day, “Degree does not necessarily equate to wealth.” It does not invalidate a college education and I do believe everyone should go to university, as many doors open. But as with everything else in life, very rarely anything is handed to you unless you're privileged, so you are going to have to work and sacrifice for it.

Doing Better

This time around, however, I plan on overcoming my shortcoming academia standard by becoming more organized allowing myself to manage my time better.

The Most Challenging Part

Rashied and Julia have been awesome in preparing me for my IT Career. I was given training in self-worth, self-confidence, and self-esteem. I went on field trips and toured IT and Financial businesses located in Madison, WI. I got a first-hand view of the life of a software developer. YWEB has given me the drive to succeed as a software developer.

A Serious and New Experience

However, I just consider that as a reminder of the challenge that I have to fight and the must of getting out my comfort zone.

Serving Something Outside of Myself

I came in as a transfer student at UW Madison about a year ago. I was a standing Junior, and I was struggling with a sense of purposelessness. I know my purpose should have been scholastic success, but with very few friends in the area I spent a lot of my free time alone in my dorm room.
